Description

from Scenic Helicopter Tours
Scenic Helicopter Tours offers a variety of tours with breathtaking views of the Smokies! Open 9AM - Sunset daily. No weight limit. Our facilities are Handicap accessible. We can accommodate up to 6 passengers at a time. Scenic Helicopter Tours is one of the only helicopter operators allowed to fly into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Upsey Downsy: The name says it all! You will climb to about 500 feet and circle our heliport "Just to get the feel of a helicopter." WE RECOMMEND THE NEXT FLIGHT UP - For a much better value and experience.

Mountain and River View: This flight takes you over the French Broad River and rolling hills of Sevier County. From 1200 feet you will see a beautiful panorama of the Great Smoky Mountains. This flight covers 8 Miles.

Douglas Lake Flight: At 1500 feet above the ground, this flight extends along the French Broad River toward the Douglas Dam Lake area with lots of scenery. 12 miles/flight time about 6 minutes.

Foothills or Extended Lake Flight: You pick on this option - We can fly you out further along the rolling farmland and Douglas Lake area or out toward the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Flight Path is 16 Miles.

Mountain Valley Flight: As you depart from the heliport toward the lower foothills and lots of undeveloped mountains and Bluff Mountain, you’ll be amazed at the view of the Smoky Mountains. 24 miles/Flight time about 12 minutes.

The Ridge Runner: This is a newly named "classic" over the Chilhowee Mountain Range. You will fly over the lessor developed areas. Historic downtown Sevierville and Pigeon Forge can been seen off in the distance, but mountains, ridges and valley are the highlight of this flight.

Gatlinburg Mountain Tour: Soar high above the foothills and lots of undeveloped mountains. This flight offers views of Sevierville, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge too. A breathtaking experience! 36 miles/flight time about 18 minutes.

National Park Flight: This flight is perfect for those who love nature as the views are beautiful. This flight covers historic downtown Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg before it enters the Great Smoky Mountains National Park over deep valleys and high mountains and shows the heart of the Tennessee side of the park. 50 miles/Flight time about 25 minutes.

All flight routes are weather permitting.

"Family bucket list"
May, 2018
I was so excited when I found the ad for this company. Flying in a helicopter has been on my bucket list for ages and being able to share it with my family made it even more special. I was most excited about the high weight limits for these helicopters. Myself and my family are not the smallest people and for them to be able to accommodate us to all fly together was absolutely amazing. The views were spectacular, the pilot was super friendly and informative of what we were looking at, and the weather was perfect.

Tip: Pay a little more for the rides through the mountains. The cheaper flights are shorter but still breathtaking

Very informative ride. My 15mo grand daughter loved it. She really surprised me! Beautiful scenery! It was somewhat cloudy day but it didn’t take one bit of beauty from our experience!

"Rushed & Disappointed"
November, 2017
My wife and I had an appointment at 3p.m. for the lake view tour. When I arrived, there were many people in front of us and the attendent encouraging us to take the extended lake view tour for 15$ more per person. I spent over $100 and waited 35-40 mins before taking flight. The pilot, although friendly, expressed how many people did not engage him in conversation and rightfully so. It was extremely distracting and I felt like I paid $100 to talk to the pilot instead of enjoy looking at the scenery during the flight. The helicopters were taking off and landing so frequently, hearding people in and out like cattle, and the talking on our flight really made the entire experience feel rushed.
We are from the coast and we see water all the time. I wish i had forked out the extra $30 on top of the $100 to fly over the mountain ranges which is why we came to TN for our homeymoon in the first place or not wasted our money for the extended tour. The whole thing has left me disappointed in our TN experience and I will probably never waste our hard earned cash on a helicopter tour ever again!

Tip: They have a great website and the $10 cost draws you in but shop around for someone who has the time to make you feel like they care about the customer experience not just your money.

Our guide was Alex, and he did an absolutely wonderful tour for us! The views were spectacular and couldn’t have seen it any better than from way up there. The ride was smooth and they were very accommodating. There were 5 of us, 6 with Alex. Myself, my husband and our kids, ages 4, 7, and 9. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!!!

We had used Scenic last year, and it was on our list for this year as well! We were not disappointed as once again it was one of the best parts of our Gatlinburg Family Vacation. Everything is very professional, all the details addressed - which made us feel a lot safer. The pilot was so fun and informative. All the staff was super nice to talk with, and made us feel comfortable. We will be back again next summer!

Frequently Asked Questions about Scenic Helicopter Tours

How many people do the helicopters at Scenic Helicopter Tours hold?
Our helicopter's hold either three (3) or four (4) passengers. We believe in quality rather than quantity, and our helicopters offer the best visibility with all seats facing forward.

How long do the flights last?
To get the times on the flights, you just cut the miles in half. So for example the River Island flight is 8 miles in distance, so the length is 4 minutes. Please arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to flight time to fill out paperwork and ensure on-time flights.

Is there an age limit?
Not at all. Our youngest passenger was 20 days old and the oldest passenger we know of was 102 years old, so if you're in between those ages you are good to go. If you're older or younger, please let us know so we can make note. Children less than 24 months are free.

Can handicapped people take a flight?
Absolutely! One of our biggest thrills is to enable those who cannot hike the back country trails to still enjoy the beauty of our area.

Do you fly over waterfalls?
No, not any longer. The reason is, that most of the waterfalls in the park are very popular destinations for hikers and in order to see them from the helicopter we have to get very low over them. We decided years ago to discontinue this for the hiker's enjoyment of natural quiet, besides the park offers many other awesome views that are virtually untouched by human feet.

Can we take pictures/video from the helicopter during our Scenic Helicopter Tour?
Yes. In fact, it is highly recommended.

Where is Scenic Helicopter Tours located?
The physical location is 1949 Winfield Dunn Parkway in Sevierville.

Is there a weight limit?
Yes.  In one of our aircraft we have a per seat limit of 300lbs.

Can pets come along for the ride?
No. FAA regulations do not allow us to accommodate animals.
