"Saw a bear"

We were in Gatlinburg mid week in October. We arrived at the ticket office at 9:30. There was a short line. We got our tickets and headed to the ski lift. I felt sorry for the man who had to dry the chairs. He was by himself. He was working very hard and kept a smile on his face. He could have used more help. The ride up was a bit slow but we did see a bear ( he was still there on our ride back down which makes me wonder if he was truly a "wild" bear) The view up top was amazing. The Memorial walk was a nice touch. We were disappointed that the roller coaster was not working. The rope bridge was nice. It was not crowded at all so we were able to enjoy it almost my ourselves. The shops were overpriced. Didn't have any food so I cannot comment on that. Did not zip line as we had done it the day before elsewhere. Overall not a bad experience but nothing amazing.

Went to Anakeesta just before sunset and watched the surrounding mountainsides glow and change colors as the sun went down. Staff was extremely helpful in getting older members of our party into and out of the chondas. Nighttime at Anakeeta sitting around the firepit was excellent and relaxing Ran into many friendly people to talk to.

"Rainy fun!"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

This was a really fantastic adventure for my family. We went in the rain and it was a little cold, but we still very much enjoyed it. We saw a bear from a safe distance! Their cappuccino in the ice cream shop was delicious! It was a great atmosphere and perfect for a Fall day. I wouldn’t plan on taking the enclosed cars up the ski-lift (gondola cabin) because they only have a few of them, or plan on waiting for a bit of extra time for one. It was raining when we went and people were waiting for hours to take the enclosed ones back down to the bottom. Guest services gave us free ponchos which more than protected us and kept us dry even in the open-air seats. Highly recommended! It is beautiful up there and it looks as if they have more to come.

From chair lift to garden to memorial walk to swinging bridges, this place is unique and fun! My favorite was the memorial walk with the history of the Gatlinburg fire. Very tastefully presented. Chair lift was slow going up but we were surrounded by beautiful scenery. We went on a no wind, 60 degree day, and it was perfect!
